What Is Random Video Chat?
Updated 2026-10-29. Random video chat pairs you with a stranger for a live one-to-one call. This guide explains how it works on Vibelly, what is and is not stored, and how to stay safe. Vibelly is free for adults 18+, runs in your browser, and needs no account to chat.
What is random video chat?
Random video chat connects you over video with a stranger you have never met — no friend list, no algorithm-curated feed, no profile. You press a button and are matched instantly.
The concept was made famous by Omegle and Chatroulette. Vibelly keeps that excitement and rebuilds the technology: modern WebRTC video, one-tap reporting (sign-in required), and matching in seconds.
Why try random video chat with strangers
Random video chat is also completely free on Vibelly, works on any browser, and requires no account.
- Meet people you would never cross paths with in real life
- Practice a new language with native speakers around the world
- Fight boredom with unpredictable, genuine conversations
- Share only what you are comfortable sharing, and keep personal details private
How to stay safe during random video chat
Every call has a one-tap Report button (sign-in required), and every report is reviewed by hand. Conversations are ephemeral: when you skip or end a call, the conversation is not stored.
Never share personal financial information, keep your location vague, and trust your instincts. Skipping to a new person is always one click away.
How random video chat works on Vibelly
Random video chat pairs you with a stranger for a live, one-to-one video call. On Vibelly, you open the site, confirm you are 18 or older, allow camera and microphone access, and press start. A matching server pairs you with someone who is waiting, then gets out of the way.
The call itself connects directly between the two browsers using WebRTC, which encrypts audio and video in transit. When a direct connection is not possible, a relay server forwards the call without being able to read it. Calls are never recorded.
You can skip to someone new at any time. Free video runs at 480p and adapts to your connection; Premium adds 720p HD, voice-only calls, and gender and country filters.
